Semi-structured interviews\nwere conducted to explore older people\u2019s perceptions and ideas about the\nrequired and desired competencies of professionals working with the population\nin their later life. Empirical work was conducted\nin five countries, so that the views of elderly people from different regions\nof Europe (East, West, South, North) could be fully considered and integrated\nin a culturally comprehensive framework (a qualitative approach; sixteen\nsemi-structured interviews in each country).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\ninterviews were based on a common script, developed by the leading partner, in\na way of assuring a common analytic background. Semi-structured nature, has permitted elderly people from\ndifferent countries to express their ideas and perceptions in an in-depth and\nfreely way, giving the space and time that is offered to elaborate on specific\nneeds and desires which can be oriented by cultural, social\/environmental or\nindividual factors to identify innovative and effective learning\/teaching approaches for\nworking with older people. \n\n\n\nData\nanalysis was conducted using the method of thematic analysis.
