Second “Academic week” at Belgrade University

Following positive experiences from the pilot project DASUN (Danube Seniors Universities), the University of Belgrade and the University of Arts in Belgrade have organized for the second time an “Academic Week” for older adults that included lectures and interactive workshops, presentations and exhibitions on topics related to adult learning, aging and third age. The aim was to raise the participants’ awareness about their future education and participation in social life. The “Academic Week” took place in the period 19-23 November 2012 in the rooms of the faculties involved. During this week six educational meetings were successfully organized. The program was attended by a total of 139 participants.

BEST PRACTICES OF BULGARIAN LIBRARIES IN THEIR INTERACTION WITH READERS AGED 50+

Abstract: Nowadays libraries implement the modern management mechanism to adapt to the complex of economic, political and social changes. Particularly important are communication and education functions of the library that actively interacts with all target groups of readers. The report summarizes the best practices of Bulgarian libraries to serve readers aged 50+. Treated successfully applied techniques of public communication, completed projects, new forms of library services and resources, interactive methods of interaction with the target group. THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPUTER SKILLS FOR ADULTS 50+ IN THE INFORMATION SOCIETY

In the project DASUN in Sofia, Bulgaria took part the State University of Library Studies and Information Technologies /SULSIT/, in partnership with the Association of University Libraries /AUL/. For all activities we became advice from Zentrum für Allgemeine Wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung (ZAWiW) der Universität Ulm.

At the beginning we made a brainstorming and decided what to choose for the education of adults 50+ in our university. We made several assumptions about their needs and interests. Abstract: The aim of the project DASUN is to develop in cooperation with four universities (together with NGOs)- in our case these are SULSIT and Assoociation of University Libraries /AUL/, from 3 Danube countries (Bulgaria,Romania, Serbia) guided and counselled by ZAWiW of Ulm University, concepts for academic continuing education program for older adults as a bridge between science and citizens,designed to fit to the local frame conditions. The concepts will be individually adapted to the circumstances of each partner, will be implemented and evaluated, in order to develop sustainable concepts and educational praxis. First of all, concepts and good practice of scientific further education for older in Europe, as preparation for new tasks of the older in society, science, economy and culture, will be introduced. After that, each project tandem (each university co-operates with an NGO) will develop a concept for an academy day concerning the topic “Ageing and Society”, implement and evaluate it. read more (Bulgarian)

Dobrinka Stoykova and Ivanka Yankova: Importance of computer skills in the life of elderly

Abstract: It is important for the old people to have computer skills to be useful for their self and for the society. From 1.12.2010 until 30.07.2011 a pilot project lead by the Center of General Academic Continuing Education (ZAWiW) of Ulm University, Germany, was implemented. A team at the State University for Librarianship and Information Technologies decided to make presentations and demonstrations, showing the advantages of IT skills for searching for everyday information needed by the adults 50+ to solve some of their problems connected with communication, health and others. We made also a training for a group of old people how to search for the required information. We gave them also leaflets with useful practical information about health, what to do in a free time, what sport to play etc. In the leaflets we put also Internet addresses on these themes. read more (Bulgarian)

Challenges in front of academic education

Abstract: The problems of the contemporary world in 21 century are real challenges in front of the education for adults. The researches in different countries show that the educational and cultural activity of the adults is connected more or less with their educational level. Recently the trend for increasing number of adults who become students is occurring in developed and in the developing countries.

The education for adults is so important, as in traditional education and has a potential for better success

The continuing academic education for adults is not only chance for higher qualification, new qualification or improves of the adults’ skills. It is a new opportunity for long life learning and non stop personal development.

TV station “Studio B” – Natalija Milosevic and Daniela Mihailovic were guest in the morning program on the Sunday, 29. May 2011. In this 10-minute interview they also talked about DASUN project and the Academic day, that followed in a week from then, and took the opportunity to invite older people to participate in this event.

TV station “RTS 2″ – Natalija Milosevic and Daniela Mihailovic were also guests in the second program of the national television “RTS” after the Academic day – on the Thursday, 23. June 2011. In this 2-minutes tv report in the show “Kontekst 21″ (“Kontext 21″) they talked about this special event, impressions of the participants and organizators, and DASUN project in general.
