HOW MANY LEARNERS HAVE WE GOT?Who is the UPUA programme aimed at?The Permanent University focuses on adults of over 50 years of age who are residents of the Valencian Community, and who wish to improve their socio-cultural standing, without the requirement of having any formal qualifications. What DO THEY LEARN?Course featuresThe program offers the students the chance to pre-select a total of 73 themes to be taught in 102 sessions. These themes are then distributed to the different faculties: Experimental Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Computer Science (the most solicited), Sound and Image, and health Social Action. Duration of courses: 40 hours of theory and practice. ARE THEY TYPICAL OF OUR COUNTRY?Social and cultural setting of the Province of AlicanteAlicante finds itself in a privileged situation for the development of international relations, since it has some of the largest communities of foreign residents in Europe. Now numbering about 100.000 people from different countries of the European Union, the colony continues to increase, thanks to the creation of a boarder-free zone within the European Community, which greatly facilitates the steady influx of elderly Europeans. Most of them come to stay as retired residents in this region, principally English and German citizens.
