Statistics of Internet Use

Statistics of Internet Use

Presented at the EuCoNet Meeting in Alicante
February 2002 by Erich Regula, Ulm

Ladies and Gentlemen, dear EuCoNet partners, dear hosts from Alicante!
First of all I have to thank for all the contributions to national and international internet statistics I received from all our partner countries. All of them were very valuable and I could use them very well. Unfortunately I could not find sufficient data about seniors specifically. So I will present general data first, for the seniors are not an isolated community and many problems concern younger people as well as seniors.
A warning beforehand: Statistics can give quite different results according to the base of collecting the data and calculating the results.
In this presentation all data of internet use are calculated, if possible, as percentage of population (or in the case of host counts referred to 1000 inhabitants).

The data and diagrams are presented from different points of view:
  • Based on language
  • Based on asking users
  • Based on host count
  • Specialities of countries
  • Place of connection: home, office, school
  • Age / gender groups
  • Reasons for using / not using the Internet
