2. The House (physical space to live in)

  • Granada has many attractions, which make it a very interesting city: aspects of the arab period, the renaissance, the baroque and the Christian, beautiful streets and dozens of little squares with delightful gardens.

  • The Arabs settled here from their arrival in Spain. In 1013 Granada became an independent kingdom, which lasted until the arrival of Ferdinand and Isabella, in 1492.

  • Until the fifties of the last century, Granada remained within the limits of the historical city, but after that modern Granada came into being, with the construction of the suburbs of La Chana, Zaidin and the North Zone, with the new style of housing in garden suburbs, as well as the typical carmens of Granada.

  • The living space in the old houses was distributed differently: the entrance with the vestibule opening on to the street led into the reception room which also was used by the family as its sitting-room. Behind came the more private section of the house: the bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and inner patio.

  • The modern house has developed according to space limitations; usually with 7 or 6 squares of living space, which is distributed in bedrooms, sitting-room bathroom, kitchen and dining room.

  • Housing is developing so rapidly that soon we will be talking of automatic houses, with everything done at the touch of a button.
