Summary of Results

Stand:

10. Did the group receive enough support from the moderators?

10.1. Group moderation
All groups report sufficient moderation in their group and see it as being essential to the success of the project (in resolving conflicts, keeping power-balance in the group. Wishes for improvement included better language skills of moderators (Vicenza), one permanent co-ordinator instead of two (Granada), involvement of a person experienced in “learning through research” (Lyon).

10.2. Personal support
All groups report having received much personal support from the co-ordinators as well as from the group. Wishes for improvement include: organising a larger group in order to reduce the work load (Lyon), Granada would like to have had more leisure time together – not only work!

10.3. Support with structuring and dealing with the tasks
The most replies move in the areas of “medium” to “much”. While the Lyon group would like to receive clear explanations, guidelines and objectives from the project co-ordinators in order to be effective, the Arnhem group see too close structuring and prescriptions coming from the outside for dealing with the task as contradictory to the objectives of a self-study group who should be responsible for own functioning.
Support of the management of the organisation was also noted as being important for the success of the project (Lyon).
