2. Seniors in self learning groups from various countries are working together in a virtual way. To what extent was this goal achieved?

The students’ groups consider this objective partially fulfilled or not at all fulfilled. Language problems, the insufficient skills in using the Internet as well as the lack of opportunity for the participating seniors to get to know each other personally at the start of the project were seen as strong hindering factors. The thematic subject was also considered to have been too complex. The solution for communication, the “dedicated multilingual forum” came rather late in the project, November 2001, also the first larger personal get to know each other took place at the same time at the Multiplicator Conference in Ulm. As a result, communication took place primarily between the coordinators. Suggestions included: organisation of a personal meeting of the participating seniors at the beginning of the project, simplifying the thematic tasks, coaching in the use of the new communication media through young students, training to use computer and the Internet before the project start, more material resources devoted to virtual contacts.
