This day was surely a day of recovering in Lucca!
After a short meeting with the president of Cesvot in Lucca concerning almost completely our activities as volunteers at home, we spent a visit to the extremely interesting museum of emigration that showed a very well presented overview of the different waves of emigration of the Italian population into all kinds of countries from the end of the 19th century until today. The pictures and descriptions were very impressive, the different themes often shocking – but it hardly ever found its way into the literature of Italy. Some titles of nowadays are listed in the very well made and informative catalogue of the exhibition; besides this the subject does not seem to interest anybody. Why?
The afternoon we spent in that beautiful city, its amphitheatre and on top of the broad city wall where the first green seduced some inhabitants to go for a walk in the glaring sunshine, and we were glad to be there.
