THE MOVIE: Volunteering on a sunny Sunday http://www.tell-me.org/2012/07/16/volunteering-on-a-sunny-sunday/ http://www.tell-me.org/2012/07/16/volunteering-on-a-sunny-sunday/#comments Mon, 16 Jul 2012 10:06:36 +0000 barcelona http://www.tell-me.org/?p=3753 In the framework of the Grundtvig EU project “Tell me about your commitment!”, the local group of Barcelona deicded to make a fiction movie about volunteering, in order to transmit their conclusion after months of debates about “being a volunteer”. They decided to produce, direct and play a story in which the different aspects of volunteerism appear. It is about a young woman who has never served as a volunter and who meet a group of volunteers in a “remote” neighbourhood. Step by step she gets involved with the group. The story tells the commitment of local volunteers towards their community and the organisation of a Communty Lunch – in which the whole community will take part – as a way to promote living together. The involvement of the volunteers might be at different levels, but at the end of the day they all look for transforming the reality through living and sharing the values of mutual respect, dialogue, solidarity and learning together.  The video is in Spanish, with minimum English sub-titles to make the story understandable.

Meine ehrenamtlichen Tätigkeiten / My voluntary work http://www.tell-me.org/2012/07/07/meine-ehrenamtlichen-tatigkeiten-my-voluntary-work/ http://www.tell-me.org/2012/07/07/meine-ehrenamtlichen-tatigkeiten-my-voluntary-work/#comments Sat, 07 Jul 2012 13:50:38 +0000 gkoertin http://www.tell-me.org/?p=3032  Dorothea Durka, ViLE e.V., Deutschland

 My voluntary work

During my whole life I have tried to do – in addition to my professional work as a teacher and my work as a housewife and mother – voluntary work, e. g. in the church, in a shop for the “third world”, in a choir and its management…..

So I was prepared for my retirement.

Then, I continued with my work in the church, in the shop for the “third world”, and in the choir. In addition: I’m working in a museum, being responsible for the library, I visit sick people in the hospital, I organize singing in a home for elderly people by playing on the piano. I’m also active as a private tutor for pupils and I teach German to foreigners. Sometimes I’m asked to look after some children in my neighbourhood.

I’m content to be healthy and to be able to do all these different things. Thanks to all these activities I come in contact with many people and make interesting acquaintances and experiences.

I hope that I will be an active member of the society for a long time.

Seniors volunteers consult international students in Ulm http://www.tell-me.org/2012/07/02/volunteer-seniors-consult-international-students-in-ulm/ http://www.tell-me.org/2012/07/02/volunteer-seniors-consult-international-students-in-ulm/#comments Mon, 02 Jul 2012 13:45:05 +0000 gkoertin http://www.tell-me.org/?p=2639 A presentation by Angelika and Friedrich Sackmann, senior volunteers, iLE e.V., Germany, at the “Tell me” project meeting in Vienna.

The two projects are long established at Ulm University. In both, senior volunteers help foreign students in their first steps in Germany. Moving to another country is for many foreign students very stressfull, those who have not travelled much in the past may  suffer a cultural shock. The Ulm University has recognised the value of these two projects  in that it helps the foreign students to to understand the cultural differences and to adapt quicker to the life in foreign country. This can lead to a better performance in   their study.
