University of Alicante
Permanent University Students & Alumni Association

INTRODUCTION OF OUR ORGANISATION

This association has as its goals to favour relationships among University of Alicante's Permanent University students through the organisation of both cultural and fun activities, and to offer our efforts and dedication to the improvement of the status and quality of university studies for older adults.

We want to integrate into the university world, focusing especially on the encouragement of intergenerational relationships. We want to stay in touch with other Spanish and foreign universities which offer studies for older adults and join older adult organisations, as this will help us to achieve improvements for this sector of the population.

PERMANENT UNIVERSITY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALICANTE - UPUA

The Permanent University is a scientific, cultural and social programme that is developed by the University of Alicante and is aimed at promoting not only Science and Culture, but inter-generational relationships as well, with a view to improving the quality of life that the older generation enjoys and encouraging their active participation in dynamic social and community activities.

INTRODUCTION OF UPUA

The Permanent University was inaugurated in 1999 and now has around 1,000 students scattered among its 4 university centres at which a programme of 120 different courses are conducted, all complimented by a wide range of cultural activities (work-shops, seminars, publications, theatre, cultural visits, etc.), in collaboration with the Students Association.

The programme's most outstanding feature is its great dynamism, its active student participation programme and the great number of foreign students involved, thanks to the strategic locations of the University's centres (the Mediterranean coast).

WHO IS UPUA PROGRAMME ADDRESSED TO?

It focuses on adults of over 50 years of age who are residents of the Valencian Community, and who wish to improve their socio-cultural standing, without the requirement of having any formal qualifications.

WHERE DO THEY LEARN?

The San Vicente Campus, Alicante city centre, Biar, Cocentaina, Benissa or Orihuela.
