Stand:

Nevertheless one should consider one’s living conditions once in a while.
It is good to think about one’s living conditions, it enables you to adapt and to keep control. Mind you, other determining factors should be involved such as environment, state of care and aspects of well-being.

Main points of the lecture.
The take-off point of the lecture is the question:
Is it possible for me to stay in my own home independently?
Question derived from the one above are:

  • Do I have to adjust the house?
  • Which facilities are useful?
  • If moving is inevitable, which categories of housing are available?
  • Which service/care institution can I turn to for support?

Housing is of the utmost importance to older people, they are real housing-consumers.

Older people spend more time in and around the house, which results in the house gaining more importance. The elderly are real ¨housing consumers¨ and that also includes their surroundings. The way of living strongly determines the way in which the senior citizen can preserve his or her independence and autonomy.
