3. Steps made during research.

3.1 Participants choose topics within the theme.

Topics.
While discussing the theme Senior Citizens and Living a number of topics emerged.
The participants expressed their own interpretation of the theme. The questions which emerged were:
What considerations make the elderly decide to give up autonomous living and go into a service flat or a home for the aged.
What emotional motives play a role in this process?
What is government policy regarding elderly and living like?
And is this policy in accordance with the senior citizens demands.

Giving information to senior citizens?
It was our intention to find explanations ¨behind¨ the motives.
This research might lead to giving information to senior citizens that would help them make a well-considered decision.

Establishing the core theme of the research.
During the first three meetings the various fields of attention within the theme of Senior Citizens and Living were somewhat better arranged and a choice was made as to the range of the core theme of the research. It focused on decision-making. What is the essential information a senior citizen needs to be able to answer the question: Can I still live in my own home independently?
