In 1955, during the summer festival "Nabada", the Berliners in Ulm
asked the former lord mayor of Ulm - while floating one of the rafts on the
Danube - for a Berlin Street. Their wish was realised in 1956 by naming the
square Berlin Square.
The new name should express solidarity with Berlin and its people. At this
time the 3000 Berlin-born people who lived in Ulm founded their own association
with 500 members. Every year actions were organised for the recuperation of
children from the divided town Berlin.
