From factory site to residential park
The area of the square was formed for 123 years by the Wieland works, a metal
ware factory. After the company moved to the industry area Donautal, its face
changed dramatically: a modern living quarter with a park flair built to prize
winning architectural designs replaced the former production buildings of the
company. The building took 10 years - from 1983 to 1993. Especially attractive
is the water that flows through the pedestrian area and is fed by a
"Wielandbrunnen" (Wieland well), a stylised mill wheel with four small
fountains. The residential area opens to the Willy-Brandt-Platz. Larger
buildings with shops and the coffee bar Einstein form together with the building
of the social services the square, which is also open to traffic.
The landscaping of the square included also planting of trees - sycamores,
putting up containers with flowers and laying new paving.
