We have started in our group to collect information on bread customs and
festivals in Europe and have gathered quite a lot of materials. But it did not
come to evaluation as Carmen Stadelhofer asked us to take part in the new SoLiLL
project. We have plunged into work without knowing what dimensions this would
take. There were no concrete instructions concerning the subject matter and
working approach. First we had developed a questionnaire, to which an older
questionnaire served as a model. The older questionnaire was extended and
adjusted on the basis of a proposal for a questionnaire from Italy. Then it went
to Czech Republic, where it was reworked further. Before the final version was
finished, the questionnaire was improved by both countries several times.
Interviewing friends and acquaintances was a lot of fun, and we could collect
a lot of verbal quotes. The analysis of our 40-question questionnaire had meant
a lot of hard work, as we had to identify the answer categories first and then
allocate all answers to them. We were lucky to have in our group our colleague
and computer freak Erich Regula, who with the aid of computer was able to create
an overview of the results and present them in the way of expressive colourful
diagrams.
We were really thrilled about this and forgot soon all the work and time that
we invested in the project. And so the joint work on this project with our
partners abroad was worthwhile.
