School in Lithuania (NAFHS) was founded and authorized on 3 February 2000 as non-governmental and non-profit organization. The purpose of activity is to coordinate activity of institutions, of adult education movement in order to develop the variety and accessability of non-formal education system, providing broad possibility for different folk movements such as folk high schools, folk academies to make them more flexible in satisfying people’s needs in a transitional society.

One of the basic tasks of NAFHS is to promote an approach of lifelong learning within the society and the development of an opportunities for continuing education, to develop adult capacities for active participation in their professional and community life, to develop adult needs for continuing education.

NAFHS in Lithuania has the intention of organizing short-term courses for handicraft people on a regular basis 2001-2002. There courses: teacher training, new technology in adult education, new teaching methods, folk arts, foreign languages and etc. The FHS carry out their activities in three different directions: raised qualification of teachers for FHS; fostering of national traditions; participation in projects, international exchange and study visits, international camps. The democratic ideas joining of all FHS are important factor for consolidation of democratic State.
