The national program of Computer basic knowledge started on the 7th of February 2003 in Brno. It is a common project of Ministry of Information Technology, Intel company and the Center of Internet. The program is aimed mainly to seniors and people of middle ages who might be afraid of computers and who might be afraid of basic work with computers. The program was introduced in Brno by the minister of information technology V. Mlynár and by the author of the project M. Komárek.

Beginners and those interested in basic knowledge of computers will be able to handle a personal computer, its connection to the Internet and possibly send their first E-mail during a special two-hour course. Skilled tutors will teach beginners how to set basic functions of personal computer and how to work with monitor, keyboard and, of course, with mouse. More advanced beginners will be taught how to look up special Internet information and how to download the Internet documents.

The courses from the national program have started in 137 places in nearly a hundred towns in our republic. It is possible to apply for participation in the course using a "blue line" 844 111 130. The address of the closest computer center of interest will be given there, too.

Senior education in Czech republic is provided at 18 state universities (see next page). The type of this education is very different, from individual lectures over thematic courses through to Bachelor or Master studies, in which the seniors can have the same subjects as the regular fool-time students. The most of provided educational activities concern social, natural sciences and medicine.

The following four universities : 1st CVUT Praha , 2nd VŠE Praha , 3rd VUT Brno and 4th TU Liberec concentrate on information technology, communication and other technical issues.

Working with PC, Internet and other communical resourses is always part of the technical courses provided. The best spectrum of technical sciences is provided by two-years basic course by VUT (BUT) Brno. Students can choose detailed courses in an area of the engineering, electrical and water engineering, economy and management, telecommunications and robotics , TV technology and fine arts in the third extra year.
