1.1. Why is this theme important in a study of life styles in Europe?

Firstly housing is basic for the life of each person, thus we can ask if house is property or rent In this way we can ask if the housing is owned or rented and the factors which have influenced in decision and priority.

About renting

  • Spain is the head of the European Union in ownership of property, but penultimate in renting, with only l5% of first houses rented.
  • The average monthly rented varies. While in San Sebastian or Madrid you must pay between 72.000 and 128.000 pesetas for a piso of 80 m2, in Granada the average price does not hit above 58.000 pesetas
