Interaction
Stand:
Prevalence of the task
Homans (1950) has defined the interaction aimed at mutual knowledge as 'internal system', and the interaction aimed at task execution as 'external system'.
When the external system prevails, interaction does not lead to any empathy among members. Moreover, if the task is not fully appreciated by all group members, mutual indifference and task rejection lead to even stronger hostility and
tension.
Groups need a balance between their external and internal systems.
