a:Did people in former times have more respect for bread than nowadays?
What do you think are the reasons?
All questioned people affirmed.Only a small group mentioned the following
reasons:the former faith and the shortage of bread and the hunger(from the 60
age group
onward).Some people think that the abundance in our days leads to a disregard of
bread.

b: Did they economize bread better?
Most of the questioned people were of this
opinion. They thought economy was one of the
reasons" Bread is never thrown away."
c: Does the place where bread was stored
tell us something about the respect towards it?
About half of the interviewed people stored
bread in earthenware pots, in special bread
cupboards or in tins, in pantries, in moist cloth and on airy boards. The
question was not
answered by "yes" but it shows the tendency that the way of storing
bread expresses the

Quotation:
The today's "throw-away-mentality" is
pilloried in a prejudice: "In the young families bread is not esteemed
at all anymore, when it is old it is simply thrown away"
The old method of storing is proven as follows: "In former times bread
could be stored one complete week without getting mouldy. For that we had a
bread case".
The relation of faith/ religion and higher respect was mentioned more than
once: "Respect mainly in faithful Christian families because of the
eucharisty.
A 74 years old man remembers: "In the school there was a severe
investigation if bread was found in the waste paper box or on the bottom" |

Summary
Most of the questioned people were convinced that the
respect towards bread has gone down. The reason for the higher respect in former
times they see in the faith and the shortage of bread.
The today's advantageous method of storing by deep freezing was not mentioned .
