Bread in Life and Art

Now I would like to reflect a moment on how the soft inside
part of the bread is a really useful material for art and creativity. This is
not new, as flour and water has always been used to stick paper. This paste, in
form of dough has also been used as a moulding material, and I remember as a
child sitting around the dining table with my brothers and sisters, playing and
making items with the pastry which our mother had made for us. The soft inside of the loaf! What we understand as the soft
inside part of the bread is an artistic tool, as we have seen, but, above all,
it signifies the essence of the loaf, (the crust, although equally edible, has
the functions of making the soft inside more manageable, and of preserving the
softness inside).

In the dictionary, ´miga´is also defined figuratively as the
essence of physical things, and it is also used to refer to the importance or
transcendence of something, moral or scientific, or an event, etc.: "tiene miga
la cosa". Such is the significance of its meaning as essence or nucleus that the
phrase, "hacer buenas o malas migas", literally, ´ make good or bad
breadcrumbs´, is used to describe the harmony or discord in which one lives with
other people.
