In July 2000, the Spanish and Latin-American Society announced its intention to set up the greatest Spanish-Portuguese university Home Page on the Web: Universia.net.

The Universia Home Page is the joint undertaking of 67 Spanish universities and more than 450 Latin-American universities, as well as co-operation of the CRUE, the CSIC and the Santander Group. It was envisioned as means of communicating information relevant to the universities, and aid for the development of new technologies for teaching purposes and for innovations in education as well as a platform for inter-university educational communication within the global Hispanic scene.
