Solill-Project „European Bread Culture”
Comparison of the Working Results of the SoLiLL groups

Horst Schwiebert

Universities from the following countries were particpating:

Group I: Italy, Czech Republic, Germany

Group II: France, Netherlands, Spain

The Group No. I made the attempt to find an uniform method for the elaboration of the topic and to define the scope of topic and the setting of objectives. Right at the start there were different views how to proceed. Italy and Czech Republic have worked on a questionnaire with 50 questions plus additions which Ulm reduced to 15 groups of questions (1 or more questions relating to one subject-matter). Out of these 15 question groups, only 7 groups were evaluated in order to obtain a clear performance. For Ulm was important to carry out personal qualitative interviews with verbal quotations of the interviewed persons, whereas Vicenza carried out more quantitative inquiries. The Czechs devoted special attention to the method of research and its quantitative processing with ethnographical interview as a qualitative method. Czech Republic has interviewed 427 persons, Germany 40, Italy 620.

For the second run of the Group No. II, the method as well as the group of questions from Ulm were adopted. In these countries the number of inquired persons were less than 25 each. France and Spain have also included verbal quotes in their results.

A statistical comparison is possible only in some few parameters, please see the following table:
