Skype Meeting between Glasgow and Barcelona – October 2011

We had a meeting at Strathclyde Universitywith Lynda Scott to link up with a group in Barcelona using skype.

When Ena, Janette and myself arrived we met Dorothy, Lesley and Paul who are going to the next Tell Me About Your Commitment conference inSlupsk,Poland.  Ena, Janette and I were at the conference inVienna and enjoyed telling the others about this.

When we linked up with Barcelona it was good to be reacquainted with and see Gianni, Marta and Asis. We were pleased they remembered us. To begin with we introduced ourselves and described our volunteering commitment.

There were some technical problems initially. Our Spanish friends had a camera which panned round their group. This often showed a blurred picture and it was also often difficult to hear them. The technical problems, however, were soon sorted out.

After the introductions we had time for a discussion.  Carmina from Barcelona asked Ena about the fiesta she had organised at the Hub inEast Kilbride. The fiesta programme included singing, dancing, yoga, tai chi and of course food and drink.  Carmina told us about an interesting project, which involved older people writing stories from their past. The best stories were told to children, who were asked to draw some pictures inspired by the stories.  We also heard from Asis about the work he is involved in helping immigrants settle in Barcelona.

I know that Ena, Janette and I were wishing we could go with Lynda and the others to Slupsk. At the same time, we are looking forward to meeting volunteers from Slupsk, Berlin, Ulm,Vienna andBarcelona, when they come to Glasgow next March.
